Testing Requirements for Tattoo Studios
Tattoo studios are also subject to DGUV Vorschrift 3: all electrical equipment must be regularly tested for electrical safety. This applies to tattoo machines and their power supplies as well as sterilizers, autoclaves, and other electrical devices in the studio.
If you also use lasers for tattoo removal in your studio, additional NiSV requirements apply.

Which Tests Are Required?
- ✓ DGUV V3 / DIN VDE 0701-0702 - Electrical safety testing of all equipment (mandatory for every commercial business)
- ✓ NiSV device testing - If tattoo removal lasers are present: safety testing per NiSV
Tattoo Removal Lasers: NiSV and Medical Supervision Requirement
Important Note on Medical Supervision
Since the full implementation of NiSV in 2021, Class 3B and 4 lasers for tattoo removal may only be operated under medical supervision (Ärztevorbehalt). The studio must still have the devices regularly tested for electrical safety - regardless of who performs the treatment.

- ✓ Electrical measurements - Protective conductor resistance, insulation resistance, leakage currents
- ✓ Functional test - Safety-relevant functions and protective devices
- ✓ Documentation - Test report and test label for each device

Tattoo studios typically have a manageable number of devices. Testing takes only a few hours depending on equipment and can be flexibly scheduled - also outside business hours.
