Device Testing for Nursing Homes

DGUV V3, STK and DIN EN 62353 for all medical and electrical devices in your care facility

Testing Requirements for Nursing Homes

Nursing homes and senior care facilities have a high number of medical and electrical devices that must be regularly tested. The Berufsgenossenschaft (BG - occupational insurance) requires testing of all electrical equipment via DGUV Vorschrift 3. For medical devices, additional MPBetreibV requirements apply.

Regular testing is not only a legal obligation but also a prerequisite for insurance coverage. In the event of damage, the insurance company checks whether all devices were properly tested.

Typical Devices in a Nursing Home

  • Electric care beds (low beds, standing beds)
  • Patient lifters (ceiling lifters, mobile lifters)
  • Blood pressure monitors (electric)
  • Blood glucose meters
  • Inhalation devices
  • Suction devices
  • Infusion pumps and syringe pumps
  • Pulse oximeters
  • Alternating pressure mattresses (pressure ulcer prevention)
  • Oxygen concentrators
  • Electric wheelchairs (electrical testing)
  • Nurse call systems

Which Tests Are Required?

Test Legal Basis Devices
STK §12 MPBetreibV Infusion pumps, suction devices (Annex 1 devices)
DIN EN 62353 DGUV V3 / MPBetreibV Care beds, lifters, blood pressure monitors, all ME devices
DIN VDE 0701-0702 DGUV V3 TVs, kettles, office equipment, kitchen appliances

High Device Count - Maintenance Contract Recommended

Nursing homes typically have a very high device count: care beds and lifters alone often amount to several dozen devices. Add medical devices on each ward and general electrical equipment.

  • Maintenance contract - Predictable costs and guaranteed testing dates
  • Deadline management - I monitor all testing deadlines and remind you in time
  • Device registration - Complete documentation of all devices with inventory numbers
  • Ward-by-ward testing - Efficient execution ward by ward
  • Immediate service - For new acquisitions or after repairs

Insurance and BG Inspection

Why Is Testing Particularly Important for Nursing Homes?

In nursing homes, devices operate around the clock with particularly vulnerable individuals. The Berufsgenossenschaft can demand proof of proper testing of all electrical equipment during inspections. Missing test certificates can lead to requirements, fines and loss of insurance coverage.

Testing Without Operational Disruption

I conduct testing without disrupting care operations. Care beds are tested on-site, devices on the ward directly at their point of use. Scheduling is done in close coordination with your facility management.
