NiSV - Cosmetic Device Testing

Safety testing for devices using non-ionizing radiation in cosmetic studios and medical practices

What is the NiSV?

The Regulation on Protection against Non-Ionizing Radiation in Human Applications (NiSV) has regulated the commercial use of devices emitting non-ionizing radiation since 2021 - particularly in cosmetic studios, nail salons, hair salons and aesthetic practices.

Operators and users must ensure that their devices comply with the requirements of the NiSV and are regularly tested for electrical safety and proper functionality.

Which devices fall under the NiSV?

  • Laser devices (hair removal, tattoo removal, skin rejuvenation)
  • IPL devices (Intense Pulsed Light)
  • High-frequency devices (radiofrequency, RF lifting)
  • Ultrasound devices (cavitation, HIFU, ultrasound lifting)
  • Magnetic field devices (magnetic field therapy)
  • LED and light therapy devices
  • Microcurrent devices
  • Cryolipolysis devices
  • Plasma devices (Plasma Pen, Fibroblast)
  • EMS devices (electrical muscle stimulation)

Our Testing Services

  • Electrical safety testing according to DIN EN 62353 - protective conductor resistance, insulation resistance, leakage currents
  • Functional testing - verification of all safety-relevant functions and protective devices
  • Visual inspection - housing, cables, connectors, type plates, warning labels
  • Documentation - complete test report with test label as proof for authorities and insurers
  • Consulting - support with NiSV-compliant device equipment and operator obligations

Why is testing important?

Since the NiSV came into full effect, operators are required to use only safe and properly functioning devices. Regular testing is essential for several reasons:

  • Legal obligation - The NiSV requires safe operation; authorities can prohibit the use of unsafe devices
  • Insurance coverage - Many liability insurance policies require regular test certificates
  • Customer safety - Protecting your customers from electrical hazards and malfunctions
  • Liability protection - Documented tests protect you in the event of damage

Who needs NiSV testing?

  • Cosmetic studios - IPL, laser, ultrasound, RF devices
  • Nail salons - UV/LED curing lamps
  • Tattoo studios - laser for tattoo removal
  • Hair salons - laser and light devices
  • Aesthetic practices - HIFU, cryolipolysis, plasma, RF
  • EMS studios - electrical muscle stimulation devices
  • Physiotherapy practices - ultrasound, magnetic field, electrotherapy

Testing Intervals

We recommend annual testing of all NiSV-relevant devices. Manufacturer specifications take precedence - many manufacturers require shorter intervals. A new test is mandatory after every repair.

Your advantage: Everything from a single source

As a medical technology service provider, we test both your medical devices (DGUV V3) and your cosmetic devices according to NiSV - in a single appointment. Especially convenient for medical practices with an aesthetic focus that use both medical products and cosmetic devices.

Note on NiSV specialist knowledge

The NiSV requires proof of specialist knowledge for users of certain device groups. We are happy to advise you on which qualifications are required for your devices. Testing the devices themselves requires electrical engineering qualifications - which we hold through our TÜV Süd certification according to DIN EN 62353.
